What is  Constipation?


Many people deal with constipation on a daily basis, but very few realize what causes constipation. Constipation is commonly defined as infrequent bowel movements that are hard and difficult to pass. 

The medical community defines constipation as "fewer than three bowel movements per week."


However, you can experience constipation and still have more than three bowel movements per week.


 What really matters when it comes to evaluating constipation is the difficulty a person has in passing stool. Strain and struggle are not common and not part of healthy bowel function.


Sluggishness, bloating and discomfort can also accompany constipation. People who experience constipation regularly may feel like being uncomfortable is the only way to live.


 However, once you identify what causes constipation you can take steps to eliminate it.

Common causes of constipation


1. Diet Low in Fiber: Fiber is very important in keeping your bowel movements regular and healthy. Not consuming enough fiber in your diet is one of the main reasons for constipation. 


It helps to clean out the intestines and the colon and keeps your stools soft so you don't get backed up. If you're not already doing so, start consuming a lot more fiber in your diet every single day.


 Between 20-35 grams is the recommended amount. You want to get your fiber from whole grain sources and also from fruits and vegetables.


 If you feel a fiber supplement will help you out, go to your local nutrition store and ask which ones they recommend there.




2. Dependence on Laxatives: If you've been taking any sort of laxatives to help with your constipation, you may have built up a tolerance to them and now they are much less effective. 


What you need to do here is slowly take yourself off the laxatives and start adding a lot more water and fiber to your diet.



3. Medications: Another one of the causes of constipation is certain medications. If you're on any medicine right now, ask your doctor if it's possible that this is one of your reasons for constipation.


 If so, you could either ask to be put on a different medication or perhaps get a stool softener to go with it.




4. Digestive Disorders: Some disorders in your digestive system such as tumors, irritable bowel syndrome, and diverticulosis can lead to constipation problems. Since this is a medical problem, your best bet is to consult a doctor in this case.





5. Not Enough Exercise: One of the other main reasons for constipation is not being active enough. Exercising is healthy for you all around and keeps your body running smoothly. 


This includes your digestive system as well. Try to work out at least 3 times a week and do something active on all the other days. Whether it's going for a walk, taking the stairs, or parking further back in the parking lot, everything adds up and will contribute to your overall health.



6. Habit


Are you in the habit of having to go to the bathroom but holding it? This may eventually lead to problems with constipation. 

It is important to go to the bathroom whenever you need to. Failure to do so can result in a decreased urge of having to go to the bathroom. This of course leads to constipation.





7. Hormones


Believe it or not, hormones can also affect your bathroom habits and lead to constipation. For instance, a woman who is going through her period may often find that she has a hard time going to the bathroom.

 If you are dealing with constipation and also dealing with hormones, this may be the cause.



8. Constipation, it can also be caused by irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). This condition makes people experience alternating constipation and diarrhea. 



They also experience cramping, bloating, and gas. IBS is managed in a variety of ways, including reducing foods that irritate the small intestine and increasing fiber intake.

Home Remedies for Constipation


1) Fiber is brilliant for largely intestinal health and for alleviating chronic constipation so try to include fiber in your diet.


2) 8 ounces of milk should be mixed with about 3 ounces of prune juice in addition to little drops of licorice extract and should be taken in the morning to treat constipation as soon as possible. This is a simple and effective Home Remedy for Constipation.



3) Drink each morning on an empty stomach, humid water mixed with 1 teaspoon of olive oil and half a lemon juice.


4) One good Home Remedy for Constipation is to Drink lemon juice mixed with warm water two to three times a day.




5) Another remedy is to drink one liter of warm water and walk around for a few minutes instantly after waking up early in the morning.




6) Immerse 10-12 big raisins in a cup of milk and bring to boil, first eat the raisins then drink the milk.




7) Mix 2 tsp husk seed (Isabgol) in 1/2 a cup of hot milk and drink instantly. This is effective Home Remedy for Constipation.



8) Mix 1/4 teaspoon of Epsom salt to 1/2 a glass of water and drink (bitter but wonderful).




9) Mix 1/4 teaspoon dry ginger powder with a pinch of asafoetida and a bit of black salt in a little warm water and sip it. This is a simple Home Remedy for Constipation.




10) One or two teaspoons of aloe gel can be taken two times a day.




11) Pears are valuable in the treatment of constipation. 

Patients suffering from chronic constipation should accept an exclusive diet of this fruit or its juice for a few days, but in usual cases, a medium-sized pear taken after dinner or with breakfast will have the preferred effect.




12) Guava is a further helpful Home Remedy for Constipation. When eaten with seeds, it offers roughage to the diet and helps in the usual evacuation of the bowels. One or two guavas must be taken every day.
